What are some blogs and sites, a new startup should send press releases to?
It's very hard to get some coverage for new startups. If you are not Facebook/Twitter and Ron Conway isn't your investor you hardly can get TechCrunched. What are some other blogs a startup should address to get their story covered?
The best startups don't send press releases. I've been watching the companies that have the best launches, like Instagram, Flipboard, Soluto, Quora, Aweditorium, and Siri and none sent press releases.
Flipboard, instead, sent me this: http://www.google.com/buzz/scobl...
Aweditorium had someone I trust make an introduction.
Soluto was talked up by influencers in Israel (I saw them six weeks before they won Techcrunch Disrupt).
I forget how I first heard about Quora, but it probably was from one of the folks I follow on Twitter.
Siri was introduced to me by a PR guy I trust and like.
Instagram was shown to me by Kevin when I visited DogPatch Labs. He made sure he installed a beta on my iPhone before I left and gave me a demo.
It's very rare that a really great company sends me a press release to introduce themselves. I read them all, but it's interesting that none of my favorite companies this year introduced themselves to me that way.
